Warm banks

A charity providing solutions for their community.
In the United Kingdom, warm banks have become a haven for many communities across the country. The cost-of-living crisis has only worsened over time. This has led to an extremely difficult living experience for residents in Coventry and the nation at large. This has raised much concern about families creating a safe living environment for themselves and their loved ones. Warm banks provide somewhere for people to warm up. As the nights are drawing in, temperatures continue to decline, meaning residents have become anxious about huge rises in gas, electricity, and heating. More councils, public bodies and charities are opening their spaces to provide a warm environment. Some months ago, such things were not deemed necessary. But now, they have become the norm, supporting their communities. In support of residents in Coventry, Mark Graham has created a solution to help support those in need of financial support in this difficult time.
Mark Graham, development officer at Holbrook Community Care Association
The Holbrook community provides a warm space for people who are affected by the cost-of-living crisis, it is a place of comfort and hope for a seemingly dire situation. Anyone is free to use their services. They provide food, a warm space, hot drinks, books, and games. Even if you are just looking to spend time with people in the Coventry community, it’s the right place for you. People you meet in the Holbrook community would be able to relate with one another and this creates a lovely unity within the community.
Mark shares “this warm space is for anyone and everyone. We are happy to welcome anyone who needs help and support, it’s just what we do. Since the last time you visited, we have even more registered attendees since the crisis hasn’t improved much at all”.
Mark went into depth about how his services are always looking for better ways to support the Coventry residents and will continue too as they know they will always be needed. Holbrook’s have and continue to support many people, which is exactly what is needed in times like this.
The warm banks are so beneficial in reassuring our communities that help is out there when they need it most.
Michelle Williams, a project worker for Holbrooks, said “many people faced a choice between eating and heating. A lot of people are in the same boat," she said. "[The bank] takes that stigma away from being on the breadline, which most of us are”.
It’ll make this Christmas season a period to look forward too, knowing there are such services available.
